Do you read manga scanlations? Do they leave you as satisfied as reading the boo!

Question: I buy a lot of manga; my mum usually gives me a lot of money during breaks so I obviously went out and blew it all on about three manga series.

But then my friend recommended another manga, and I didn't think my mum would let me buy it because, not only did I not have enough money, but the front cover of the first book looked a bit dodgy. So I went online and found an excellent site with scanlations, and after about 27 pages I just gave up. It didn't give me the same feeling as actually having the pictures there, in front of me. In the end, I just skipped to the last few pages of the final volume and found out what happened. But even though I know what the whole story is about, I still want to get the volumes themselves...

So what are your opinions on scanlations? Rad or bad?

What I do, is I treat a scanlation like a blurb, to stop me having to go all the way to the nearest bookshop (which isn't very near!) to flick through; besides, my library doesn't have any graphic novels and Borders is always about ten books behind, so I get frustrated sometimes.

So say I wanted to buy a manga, but wasn't sure how good it was, I would look it up on the internet, read spoiler-free reviews, and then find a scanlation and read ONLY UP TO the first 10 pages. My mum doesn't buy me manga as she thinks it's too expensive, which it is!

I'm a staunch believe in supporting the manga artists I love, so I'll always buy the book. If, however, like you said, the book is somewhat dodgy, and I'm looking for some...well, light reading, I'll have to look up a scanlation to prevent asking my mum to buy it. Usually though I can't be bothered to trudge through a whole scanlation of a manga as it's so long!

So rad as a "trailer" but bad as a book, because I just can't be bothered, and I'm never satisfied. Like you, I still want to get the book.

Anyway, I love flicking through a juicy novel with my best friend, and wouldn't want to spend hours staring at a screen. And plus, I like drawing them and reading them over and over. I treasure them and have a whole bookshelf in my room just for them, in their special little order. I love them and I would swap anything for them, so scans on a screen wouldn't do it for me.

Well some people aka me, depend their life on manga scanlations.. we just dun have that much money to blow off on mangas , you know??

you have to find the right sites dude.. some scanlations are an eyesore. you just have to know where to find the right ones..

Heres some:

scanlation download:
stoptazmo.com
vnmanga

on-site read:
onemanga.com
mangavolume.com

i'd say rad AND bad...

rad...cuz i'm broke -__-;;; and my mom would never let me buy manga books, cuz they are SO EXPENSIVE!!! and scanlations are FREE!!!! ^^ ALSO, i live in korea, so english scanlations save me from reading mangas in korean!!! (although, i can read korean, i'm really slow and i don't understand half of what i'm reading)

bad....cuz not all series are scanlated and it makes me really frustrated when a scanlating group suddenly decides to stop scanlating a series . -_--;; Also, my eyes start to hurt from staring at the computer so much.

overall though, I don't necessarily feel dissatisfied when I'm reading scanlations online. Personally, I don't feel any difference with reading mangas books and scanlations (except for my eyes hurting).... I'm satisfied both ways! ^^
