Anime Question-
What's the main difference between anime and cartoons?
1. Why they change cereal mascots..... Where's my masked dog wanting cookies for breakfast?! GET OUT OF HERE, YOU DORKY RULE FOLLOWING WOLF!
2. How people can preach something they don't live by. I mean, if YOU write a speech, shouldn't you understand it? That's how you end up making a fool of yourself!

normally cartoons don't have as much action/romance as an anime would. (nor do they have hentai, yaoi, yuri, shoujo-ai, shounen-ai...) so, I guess you can say that's the main difference. Also, cartoons target children while most animes target teenagers and older.
eh, guys, well not all guys. anyway i hate that parents get annoyed at anime. they just dint underestand. and i hate kisame.

Anime question
Anime is made in Japan, and tends to be Japanese cartoons meant for older audiences. Cartoons are more for the children of America, and is made just about anywhere else.
Gee... I guess nothing... (hence I've never asked a question here...) and while that seems arrogant(it probably is) I like to adopt an opinion and give it no further thought unless it is something worthwhile. The logic behind it? I say a weaker version of what Holmes says in the beginning of A Study in Scarlet. Then again err... have many anime fans read Conan Doyle?
As for the anime question, I suppose you could classify anime as a subsection of cartoons, but we see a reluctance to do so(even this very section is named 'Comics and Animation' not comics and cartoons), and I think the reluctance needs to be there. Since we had best consider Cartoons in the sense that its widely adopted, everywhere in the world cartoons are largely of the same style(with American cartoons often being made for lobotomised people, the ones made for comedy aren't that bad though... SouthPark is brilliant and is the exception) only Japanese ones have dared to be different and so anime rises out of the masses as a force to be reckoned with.
That and the fact that this difference is far from cosmetic, anime can successfully address serious themes whereas the typical Nick cartoon is full of half arsed humour.
PS- If everyone here asked these questions under C&A (along with a legit anime question), should I see it, I shall attempt to be of assistance.

Weird ain't it? One is serious, one is about what happens "after" life, and one's about an anime.

1. Just who are we exactly? We came in this world defined as humans but how do we know this isnt all an illusion? what if we are puppets to a great civilization we have yet to discover.

Anime is japanease and cartoons are american. Anime's contain far more complex plots and intriguing characters that actually develop as the anime progresses. Cartoons are usually a one time thing it's not like the last episode will continue on the next one.

Anime Answer - Anime hailed from Japan and eventually spread out to all four corners on Earth and have Japanese-like influences in them, while cartoon was now defined as non-Japanese-influenced animation. You see one anime, you'll know it immediately.
