no she's not dead she is just in a catatonic state that is aware of everything that's happening around her but cannot interact with the world or move independently; a type of anesthesia awareness which Brainiac is monitoring and only he can reverse
As for Descent someone who's a series regular dies and Lex truly becomes a villian (thus the title descent) due to him and Clark cross hairs in the episode.
