Ooooooooooh. Umm.... have you seen Kimi ga Nozumu Eien? Very heart-breaking, but sweet romance. Aishiteruze Baby is also very nice and romantic. Hana Yori Dango as well, but I don't like the quality of the anime. Marmalade Boy is very cute too.
I prefer animes with more action though. They're still shoujo, but try these, they're not going to hurt you. They have soft action, but not overdone action like Sailor Moon and Mew Mew Tokyo:
Card Captor Sakura, Kirarin Revolution, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, Gakuen Alice and Peach Girl. None of these will hurt your eyes, I promise ;)
If you want to laugh your pants off, try Ouran High School Host Club and Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge. This two are absolutely hilarious.
