A good non-traditional anime?!

Question: I'd like to find a good non-traditional anime to watch. I'm tired of the action/mech and action/ninja/combat and comedy/schoolgirl animes. Don't get me wrong Bleach, Bebop, Azumanga, Trigun, Naruto, and the like are all excellent, but I want something different. I've seen Deathnote and most popular anime titles in america, but I recently saw Mushi-shi and I was blown away by it's sense of storytelling and beauty. If you can suggest other non-stereotypical anime titles, I'd apreciate it.

Kino no Tabi (which I loved) would be the closest that I can think to Mushishi- but they are still quite different.

Mononoke is another one you should try- but while it does have the fantastic storyline- your first impression of it is going to be "This is fricking weird."

Some other random non-traditional anime (this stuff will be ALL over the place, but I liked them each)-
Dennou Coil
Planetes
Kemonozume
Moyashimon
Windy Tales
Akagi/Kaiji
Fantastic Children
FLCL

Movies:
Paprika
Millennium Actress
Dead Leaves
Kigeki

I think that'll be good for now.

Yea... Mushishi is a unique one...
You can also watch Hayao Miyazaki movies
Howl's moving castle
Tonari No Totoro
Spirited away

Tokyo Godfather
Grave of the Firefly (this is the saddest anime ever T-T)

Another non-mainstream anime:
Serial Experiment Lain
Technolyze
Samurai Champloo
Chobits
I know the last two is quite popular, but that's all I can think of right now...

Well, there are:
Inuyasha
Comic Party Revolution (I think that's what it's called)
Bakugan
Ghost Stories
Saiyuki Reload
Saiyuki

Those are the only ones I really know and have seen.

There r anime like Fullmetal Alchemist,it has a very diff story,51 episodes followed by a wonderful movie. This anime is quite well known, has won numerous awards, though it has a very serious storyline but there's a lot of comedy too.
Then i like Blood+ which is about vampires, but not the normal ones.here they r called chiroptera &.......well the story is really nice, diff 4m other vampire stories.
besides i also use 2 like a anime of shojo genre, its called Daa!Daa!Daa!(UFO BABY)
its a good story with a l'il school girl/comedy,but the story focuses on an alien baby who comes 2 earth. Its like a big "Hide the baby Episode"
all above animes r available on utube.
Just check it out

Myself; yourself is totally non action and all about a group of kids that are getting back together after one of the kids leaves for five years. Also watch Air tv its so sad... Its a a boy named yukito wanted to find the girl in the sky since his mother told him about her but instead he finds a girl named misuzu.

In addition to Mat's great suggestions, I also think you might like Ghost Hunt. ^^ It's another great supernatural anime.

There really isn't anything like Mushishi ^^

Oh, and if you liked Death Note, you may also enjoy Monster. The two are similar in a way, but Monster is more mature.
