Okay, there's this guy named Raito Yagami (Light Yagami for American version). He finds this Death Note that allows him to kill whoever's name Light writes in it. Whoever touches the Death Note will be able to see the Shinigami (Death God) that the note belongs to. Light's Shinigami is named Ryuk. Light uses his Death Note to rid the world of criminals (meaning he just kills them off with the death note).
That's where this detective, named L, comes in. His job is to find 'Kira', who is really Light, but no one knows that Light is Kira. L is incredible at investigation, and he becomes a real threat to Light.
With this in store, it becomes a battle to find eachothers' identities (L is obvioously an Alias), because who ever finds out the other's name first has the best chance of survival.
Uhm... I don't really want to give away anymore because that would take all of the fun out of it. But just know that it's an amazing anime and manga, and it's one of my favorites.

light yagami is a very intelligent high school student with good grades, good looks and a father who is a cheif police officer. until he finds a black notebook lying outside on the ground with the words DEATH NOTE printed on the front. when he reads the inside cover of it he thinks it has to be a joke. it says: rules of the dath note... anyones name written in this note book wil die. he takes it home and sees if it really is true. he writes down a name of a known criminal.5 seconds later it is brodcasted on tv that the criminal has died of a heart attack out of nowhere. now convincedit works, he begins to act as " justice" ridding the world of the bad people in attempt to create a better world, with him as the new " god" of this world. then he is visited by a shinigami, or death god. the death god tells him he is now in possesion of this death note and he can kill as he pleases. later on after many deaths, light is given the name KIRA which means killer in japanese.death note is an addictive anime about when a bright but bored boy lets power get to his head and the investigation that one detective will conduct to find this "kira" and put him to justice. youll find yourself on the edge of your seat durring every episode until it says to be continued and love every minute of this thrilling show with twists, turns,and justice.
