But the throwback stuff!, like Doug, or Hey! Arnold, all had lessons in their plotlines.

hmmm. "Avatar the last airbender", Teaches about Love friendship, loyalty, prejudice, and the togetherness of all races.
"Tom and Jerry", "The Jungle Book", "The Lion King"... and others.

I guess morals, courage and japanese cultures are probably the main themes of the story.

From what I can gather there is so much that teaches kids violence and self gratification that the good stuff is swept aside.
I think parents are partially responsible using the TV as a babysitter.
