Why do people hate the dubbed versions of anime so much?!

Question: I prefer the dub because it's in my own language and I don't have to read subtitles.

I hear so much of "Dub sucks" and stuff like that. Why does everyone hate it so much?

I don't know. 0_o
I don't see anything wrong with the dubbed versions of anime. I actually PREFER it. I do watch subs sometimes, but that's only if it's not in English yet.

I'm not sure. Everyone I know who watches it perfers the dubbed version. I mean who wants to watch subtitles. They are annoying and distract you from what is actually going on in the show. I know i didn;t answer your question, but I perfer dubbed over subs~!

well some people like to hear it in the original language it was created in i prefer subtitles and some times i don't even know I'm reading them I'm use to it

It depends on the person. I myself perfer the subtitles, because most of the time dub version of shows have voices that don't suit the character (usually after seeing the original you can't imagine another voice for the character) that and the dialog is usually changed (which usually doesn't make sense with what's actually happening at that time)
If your a speed reader, than subtitles won't distract you from the show itself.

Because the meaning of what they're saying is often so different. It's Americanized for us, censored. They change the jokes sometimes because they're too crude for American tv.

I remember watching the first few episodes of Bleach over in Japanese and there was something Kuchiki Byakuya says to Ichigo that had a different completely meaning in Japanese than it does in English.

Cardcaptor Sakura was majorly changed, because Li had a crush on Yukito. In America we don't put non-hetero couples in kids tv. They took out several episodes, changed dialog, and the story to make it work dubbed.

i remember finding the Japanese voices to be a little embarrassing at first because they're all so high pitched, but the original voice actors put so much more emotion into what they're saying. The American voice actors all sound bored.

The reason why people hate is because the voice actors in dubs often do not fit the characters. For example, in Death Note Light's voice actor sounds like a 10 year old (REALLY high pitched). Also, dubs are often extremely censored.

i dont like dibs because the voices just dont match up for me. i dont mind reading subs, because their voices are better and nothing is cut out of the subbed version

Not all dubs are created equal. The wrong choice of voice can completely change how you look at a character, from how it sounds to how much emotion it does/does not convey. Also ambient noise is often muffled in the dub versions, producing a less engaging experience. There are a few dubs that are high quality and got everything right, but that is not the rule, so overall I prefer subs.

Really, there are some advantage for dub over sub and vice versa, and dub doesn't suck. Here's a site where Sub VS Dub:

I personally like sub over dub because; first, I like to read over hearing words; second, some series aren't dubbed; third, the voice of the subbed episodes are more "realistic" than dubbed; and finally, you can miss some parts of a conversation in dubbed while you can pause to read dialogue in subbed episode. =)

That's just the internet community that enjoys subs more, if you find someone that doesn't have internet and watches anime they'll most likely like the dub more.

The sub is usually the one available on the internet or is usually the one that hits the internet first.

Pretty much, people just like the sub better because it came first. Re-watching the anime isn't as great as watching it for the first time, when sub viewers watch the dub they normally re-watch it.

well....
i personally don't like dubbed animes
because sometimes the voices
used for a character don't fit him/her
at all....sometimes the voices sound
way too old for them, therefore
the personality of the character sort of
changes....well that's my point of view^^

I don't know but it doesn't bug me that much that people hate it. That's what I usually watch anyway. For subbed anime I don't watch that as much but I do watch it.

thats because the americans dont put enough effort into dubbing animes compared to the japanese, plus americans americanise animes (change the script), therefore it is not original

Note: there are very few dubs that are good, like full metal,
crap dubs, are like love hina, and death note

i don't know.... i prefer the dubbed versions

i'm too lazy to start reading the Subtitles

When you hear the original voices & how much work they put into the Character & then you switch to the dubbed version you can see that it's a crappy work we don't say the dubb it self sucks we say they should do more effort in it & not do it as just work that's all & therefore i like the original voices no matter what language they are that's all

Well im in the middle of this conversation
lets start why I hate the dubbed versions

When you hear the Original voice its nice
when you change it to the dubbed version

"It sounds like a strangling duck"

hmmm ill give you an example
try finding hare hare yukai on youtube "JAPANESE VERSION"
after you listen to it try listening to the english version of hare hare yukai

it sounds like shes getting murdered in the english version

english voice actors dont put as much emotion into the voice acting it just sucks they sound retarted they make the villains sound like crazy American bad guys like from batman or something it just does not sound right but me personally i perfer the manga over any

sometimes they think that the english voice doesn't fit them. but i mostly hate the dubbed version, because of the censorship.

I like dubbed anime and manga

I do not want to read while I watch a show

2 subbed movies that held my attention
Jet Li's Fearless
Death Note
