Watch Baccano! that show kicks some serious butt.
Madlax and El Cazador de la Bruja are part of the "girls with guns trilogy" by Bee Train that Noir is also a part of.
Kiddy Grade is another girls kicking butt action show. I guess you could also throw in the Read or Die OVA under this category, too.
Scrapped Princess and Utawarerumono take place in fantasy settings- but have PLENTY of action.
The action of Berserk will remind you of Claymore (Berserk is infinitely better, especially the manga)
Now and Then, Here and There is a FANTASTIC dystopian anime that has action as well.
I'd also throw Elfen Lied out there into the mix.
