Question: here in the Philippines, all the Animes in Animax are dubbed english... my question is why do they dubbed them english??? It cost alot of money to dub an anime... why dont they just put subtitles??? and why do they even dubbed these anime's in english???? IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE the original japanese language is always better... so the question is WHY do they dubb it in english????

Yep, it's for the ratings.
Not all the animes in that channel are dubbed in English you know. The animes meant for more mature audiences has the original Japanese dub(GTO, Samurai 7, Gundam ZZ to name a few).
And not all has bad voice acting. Fate/Stay night, Kyou Kara Maou, Le Chevalier D'Eon, Fullmetal Alchemist(Funimation) and R.O.D.(british is sexy) has good voiceacting.
I forgot I was suppose to answer your question. Though the Philippines has the fastest reader in the world, majority aren't English oriented. People(not just kids) here will get what the characters are saying even if its English but they'll find it hard to read them fast.
A great Filipino anime fan starts off with an anime English or Tagalog dub. They'll eventually find out about Japanese dub and will find them better.

it's much easier cause people in the SEA can speak in english. it's hard to watch it by reading the subtitles. you miss all the action cause you're reading the subs.
well allot of people like to admire the art work rather than the white bulging sub tittles...
but what the **** were they thinking when they dubbed tsubasa chronicles season 2! the characters sounded like ****!
because it's hard for some people to catch up with the substitles, especially the younger audience, and with this the anime will dropp!
btw, in the animax channel you can view the subs by clicking a particular remote button!
because outside of Japan, anime is often treated as cartoon for kids. A lot of anime series will be shown in those countries on certain times and slots so that they can watch for e.g after school or weekends.
so when it is like that, in order for the anime to be popular (for ratings) it must be dubbed so that kids are interested to watch. Young kids are able to read subtitles but not that fast. it will demotivate them and they'll quickly lose interest in the series that they don't understand. It will affect ratings and the tv station will suffer loss.
i agree some of them are horrible. thats why the phrase 'lost in translation' exists. the original can never be emulated or the quality sustained but its better than nothing.
I love subtitles but dubbing is necessary for the anime industry to survive..
