Mister Sinister was first mentioned in Uncanny X-Men #212, and then a shadowy mental image of him appeared in the following issue. He made his actual appearance in Uncanny X-Men #221 (September 1987).
Sinister's real name was revealed in the Age of Apocalypse timeline, but confirmed in the main Marvel Universe in X-Men Annual 1995. His human background was explored in The Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix.
