Do yo have a suggestion for a lengthy anime with a good story and for older audi!

Question: I am an avid anime fan (OTAKU!) My preference is for anime with good storyline. I liked Maison Ikkoku, Monster, Death Note, Fushigi Yugi, Samurai Champloo, Bleach (though I had to fast forward whene there is lenghty (and boring) fight sequence. Though, I did not like Cawboy Beepop that much!

Could you recommend an anime series (preferably a lenghty one) for older audience that has a gripping and strong storyline. But at the same time it should not be overly slow (i.e. boring). I do not mind if it is a fantasy, comedy, psychological, or drama.

In summary, I am looking for an anime with the following criteria:
1. For older audience (college and above), i.e. requers thinking, analysis, understanding, concentration, that younger audience would not appreciate.
2. NOT hentai, mature, or with excessive fan service
3. Based on a story (i.e., has a logical beginning and ending)
4. Lenghty (preferably > 24 episodes)
5. Fast paced (so you do not have to fast forward all the time)

Lengthy story driven Anime that might appeal to an older audience w/o any slowing down in appeal?

*Great Teacher Onizuka: 43 eps. Onizuka brings his own style of moral justice & problem solving into the school full of up-tight & stubborn teens.
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?sho...

Hajime no Ippo: 75 eps +2 movies - I have to admit, that it's not as story-dramatic as GTO or Planetes, but Ippo's long & full of the best fully drawn out action scenes in the business. None of that thousands of DBZ punches going in a blur. Ippo has every punch fully animated, so viewers can enjoy it from start to finish as a fist hits a face.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: 26 eps - 'nuff said

*Planetes: 26 eps, Slice of Life, that will strike close to the heart for many older viewers. It explores life's purpose, social networks, & "working" to get by.

*Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: 27 eps, "Manliness" & adrenaline to the core. The art, music, & dialogue oozes "masculinity" but not in a super-violent way like Fist of the North Star.

+There's a project movie release sometime this Fall

Welcome to the NHK: - 24 eps, Not one of my favorites (as the characters were simply too self-destructive), but loved by many who can take its emotions & messages.

*Those marked with an asterisk (*) are in my top 10 of the 180+ series I've seen.

[Edit] Thumbs up for Jazmin's choices of:
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Samurai 7
Jigoku Shoujo

[Edit] Other lengthy Series with story (too sleepy to add links):
Full Metal Alchemist:
Read or Die
R.O.D. TV
The Twelve Kingdoms - some eps are slow.

[Edit] Thumbs up for JeremyC's picks. Mushishi & Kino's Travels do have story, & a nice mellow pace. But it's that mellow pace that sometimes detracts those who have ADD (attention deficit disorder). But if you want a series to watch just to relax & right before bed, Mushishi is what you want.

Any and everything Ghost in the Shell (the films and series). For another good anime film watch Jin-Roh.

Well, theres Neon Genisis Evangelion and The Menalcholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

But you must try Evangelion :3

My suggestion would be Gungrave. Its a great anime.
You can watch it here:

I hope that helps ^_^

I am thinking you might like Ruroni Kenshin. I would suggest Samurai Deeper Kyo, although I am not sure of the number of episodes (26, 27?????).

I have two suggestions, being in college myself.
Mushishi and Kino's Journey.

Mushishi is a very surreal fantasy/drama anime. The animation are the best I've seen in anime. Absolutely gorgeous visuals! Each episode tells a different story, and each one is so compelling. It really makes you think about what is happening. The music is awesome, it suits the serene nature of the anime well. When you watch this, you can really feel yourself slipping into another world! ^^ It's a masterpiece. My favorite anime. There are 26 episodes

Kino's Journey is a very unique slice of life series. There are only 13 episodes, and I haven't finished it yet. It is definitely one of the more interesting anime I have come across. You'll find a lot of interesting talk about different societies and ways of life. Even I don't understand all the concepts found in each country Kino visits along his journey, what I have seen so far is worth checking out

These are two series that are similar in nature, but different. Mushishi is supernatural, while Kino's Journey is a slice of life anime. They aren't fast paced, these are the kind of anime you don't rush through. You really have to think about what's going on in order to understand it. I think you will really enjoy these two and be able to appreciate them. ^^

I also agree with some of the others.
You should also check out -
