Again, why anime?!

Question: this will be the revised version of the question.

why do people like anime so much when it is so repetitive with its character personalities and predictable plots?
i will admit it would be more interesting if the action wasn't separated by ten minutes of pure talking.

Why Not?

The story lines of most anime are better than the average tv show and more serious than the average american cartoon. Anime generally has a great mix/blend of seriousness and humor that isnt found in most tv shows/cartoons.

You call anime repetitive but isn't most shows and other cartoons pretty repetitive? even most movies are alot alike.
Though i love anime, i can understand you calling it repetitive--since what you have seen is probably limited then you don't know all of the different story types out there. you just have to look and you can find great, original, creative stories. Seeing it only from cartoon network might make people feel anime is repetitive since the series that are choosen to be aired in America tend to be picked out of only certain genres.

Another reason you might find it so hard to believe that people like it so much is because the american (or dubbed) version might be a turn off (some people like it, but dubbed also can give anime a bad name).

Anime also has the appeal of being different, in a cultural way, but also having the freedom (of animation) to take you places and show you things you can't see out your window.

I believe people have the right to their own opinions (to like or not like anime, to like or not like certain series) but most times people make up their minds about it after only seeing a very very small sample of anime(thus thinking it is repetitive), many times only dubbed. I think if people are going to go as far as disliking anime they should try it out thoroughly first (disliking is different then just being disinterested--in which case try it or dont, whatever).

----------
Let me just say again: not all anime is the same (with the same personalities and plots), there is alot of different anime out there, people just have to find it but when they do they will be rewarded with original plots and characters.

For me: I have seen alot of anime, i give every series i watch a chance and dont just denouncers it after one or two so-so eps, and out of all i have seen there were reallly good and original ones. so watching all that anime was worth it to find even a handful of great ones.

---------

sorry for the long answer--but im just being thorough in answering a question

-------------------------
WAIT (in response to your additional info): you say you have seen all english translated anime? hopefully you mean all dubbed anime, because there is no way u could have seen every anime that has been subbed! if u mean dubbed, then that is only a small portion of the anime available.
-------------------------

well its just awsome and im trying to draw it but .... ya i just cant! and naruto is sooooo cute way toooooo cute it is humanly impossible to be that cute omg!

The characters are the same? Hmm.... I don't think so...^^

The anime has different kind of animations, so how can they be similar?

So, what do you think?^^

Do you have any other reasons, because I could fully support my rebut against your reasons.

Edit: i would agree with the action sequences if they weren't ten minutes apart of just pure talking --- Chris B

Yes, you are right, and that's what brings out the PLOT of the anime. If you don't want an anime with no explanation at all, then you wouldn't be able to understand it's story line. It would be too complicated to understand.

main char: cocky and slow

The reason for this, is to attract a lot of audiences. Plus without them having their stupid moments, then wy will not be able to improve. That is what we call SELF-IMPROVEMENT.

secondary: dark and confused, between protagonist/antagonist

It's because the fan girl will start coming to watch the anime, a lot of girls like those cool and bad boy characters. Plus, without the protagonist having rival then there is no excitement.

dumb-girl useless sidekick: yeah

There always has to be someone to take pity too, and they are the ones to balance the show. Without them all of the main characters will win always, and it would be boring..

optional secondary/third: homosexual or brainy

I don't understand your reason for this one, but if you meant someone who is smart. Yes, there will be always like that, an anime is related to the real world. Of course some characters has to be smart, you don't want them to look like fools do you?^^

Anime Rocks!!!!!

Anime is much better then any other entertainment out there. Characters don't have the same personalities, each show and character is unique. As well as for the great plot that are in the anime's.

And again puck stop taking my answers!!!!!

The thing is, with anime, you ether like it or you don't theres no in the middle. I think that you have to have a good imagination, thats why there are a lot of kid fans, and you just have to be the right sort of person for it. I am I love it. But since you say that it is repetitive and such, you have ether watched a lot (but why would you do that if you don't like it?) or you've watch part of one series and haven't seen and good ones yet. Or you might just be the wrong person.

Anime is awesome. I don't know what the hell your talking about. The plots aren't always predictable, not if you watch the good anime. The characters are awesome, and so much better than regular television like Grey's Anatomy. What the hell is up with that show? Anime is so much better. And other cartoons too, anime is still better. I enjoy the talking in between the action, it usually tells you something, even though it's not completely clear. If you don't like anime, you don't have to watch it. It's as easy as that.

Do you like TV? Its just like tv except more imagination, ha lol. But why ask that question when your not interested in anime?

It may seem that way at times, but there are other were you are seating down and you go "oh he's going to die for sure that's what always happens..." but the character always managed to surprise in some way. Don't knock it tell you try it. Just try to watch some of Gravitation for example that didn't actually fallow the manga at all they add different plots which made more interesting.

There's more genres of anime out there than just shounen/action... Have you seen looked at anything besides from Bleach / Naruto / Inuyasha / Kenshin etc?

Want a psychologocial mind-fck? Serial Experiments Lain
An anime about economics? Spice and Wolf
A comedy about parodies and social commentary? Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
A philosophical look at different world views? Kino's Journey
A horror show with gruesome acts of violence? Higurashi
A realistic murder mystery? Monster

Go after a specific genre or a few anime series if you must, but I haven't seen you give any arguement as to how the whole industry is "repetitive".

As it stands now, I get the feeling that you are doing the equivalent to watching a few soap operas on television and then asking "Why is EVERYTHING on TV lame and repetitive?" Just like there is more to tv than soap operas, there is more to anime than Naruto and Bleach.

Edit: You've seen all translated english material? Bull. Even if we exclude the thousand or so fansubbed series, there are still hundreds and hundreds of series that have been officially translated into English. I still want to hear some of the ones you have seen (from as many different genres as you can imagine). And if you didn't like anime so much, why would have watched ALL of them. That would take a hell of a lot of dedication that not even a huge anime fan like myself could pull off.

Anime isn't any more predictable than American cartoons. Its characters are not all the same either--again, not any more redundant than those in American cartoons. There are many genres of anime--perhaps you've only seen a few of the same kind, or maybe you've only seen the conventional (popular) ones, like Naruto.

As for your point about "ten minutes of pure talking," well, that is a difference. That talking is for plot exposition or character development--something that you don't see a lot of in most American cartoons. If all you want is action with little dialogue, I can see why you're not crazy about anime.

ETA: There's no way that you've seen "all" translated anime. You're talking decades of animated TV shows and movies. There's way more to anime than the stuff on Adult Swim.

anime is coolans i like it. It gives u a break from those lame tv shows.

If u dont like anime why write about.

i really dont know i think its because its so fake and there are plots so unbelievable they are just amazing

nobody likes you

lol

ANIME IS AWESOME!!

-Miyuki ^.^

Can you watch "Ergo Proxy" and call that repetitive?
Can you predict the end to the anime "Shingetsutan Tsukihime?"
Can you easily follow through the plot of "Gilgamesh?"
Can you watch the anime "Higurashi no naku koro ni" without having to ask questions or recall something?

There are so many animes that are not like this at all.
Sure, if you are watching an anime like Bleach, Naruto, Inuyasha, Dragon Ball Z, Hikaru No Go, Hunter X Hunter, etc... you might say that... since anime like that are intended to make the viewer enjoy, not think.

There are plenty of psychological anime out there if you are diassatisfied with regular shounen and shoujo type anime.

If you are into pure, heavy violence watch anime like Gantz or Black Lagoon.

There are so many anime out there of so many genres for you to just assume how they all are, especially if you have only seen "mainstream" type ones =]

good question........well i love anime cause its just so different and wonderful.......

unlike people in real life...... anime characters are awesome and just seem so much cooler... and yea i wish my life was more like anime...u can do so much stuff and never be bored!

Their backgrounds are so much cooler and they are really interesting and cute ^_^

yea i do see some similarities in some anime........but they are all unique in their own ways.......and thats what makes it fun and enjoyable to watch and be a part of ^_^!

Good Question
1.) F u Legend Killer. You're saying that anime sucks while you watch wrestling. Not only do you watch wrestling, you like that gay *** Randy. I stopped watching wrestling after realizing how repetitive it was. (only watched for 2yrs)
2.) I believe people enjoy watching anime for many different reasons. However, I believe that the main reason people like it is because they wished that life on earth was like anime. Who wouldn't want to know how to fly, fight aliens, demons, etc. I agree that anime is some what repetitive. Just ask yourself this question, "Is there anything in this world that isn't repetitive"? For example WRESTLING is VERY repetitive, life, etc.
3.) For all you people that like anime
Please don't respond to questions like these without backing up you point of view. Don't just say anime kicks ***. Explain why it kicks ***.

I would like to answer, but the others have said it better than me, so there.

And Legend Killer is a F****** NUTCASE. Everyone, please avoid him like the plague. You will be killed by his astounding stupidity.
