The original Firestorm's Professor who shared Firestorm's powers and body with Ronald,was able to be removed from Firestorm, but I can't remember how.
I think there are plans to somehow resurrect Ronald, and there is a possibility it could happen, given the power levels he had.
The powers of Firestorm are incredible, and he's been an underrated character, but had a very strong following for over a decade.
