In my opinion, FLCL is the best anime ever made.
I had to watch it like five times to get most of the references and symbolism in it. It's really fast paced and humorous, but it leaves me with a completely different feeling at the end.
A close second and third are Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and then Death Note
After those comes Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Full Metal Panic
I think those six are absolutely awesome. 2 and 3 had me on the edge of my seat practically the whole time.
The third season especially of Full Metal Panic, I thought was awesome, but being a fan as a result of seasons 1 and 2 probably had something to do with that.
I couldn't help telling more than just the one that I thought was the very best since I like them all. sorry.

Shakugan no Shana, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, Chobit, Naruto, and Bleach are all awesome!! >:D
