I'm sorry, but I see no alternative to criticizing your question if I can offer any ideas at all. There is one Golden Rule for creative people: no matter what you are trying to do, BE SPECIFIC.
The answer to this question is different if you are writing from Bangalore, or Manilla or Aukland. Notice I chose cities, not countries. Get that into your headspace. I could have said Harare, but with all the reports here in the US about empty store shelves and people heading for the border with South Africa the humor would be very grim.
Where are people most directly affected by the economy? In or around stores. How the dollar affects the price of flour or sugar or some other staple is the question. I can't tell you what the shopkeeper will tell the customer because I don't know the specifics of your country's economy because I don't know what country you are in.
If you are going to tray to be creative put in unnecessary details then cut them out. That is part of the process. I'm not talking about the final picture, I'm talking about the process of arriving at the final picture. What keeps the cost of bread so high in your area? Not the falling value of the dollar. That is where details are important. Put them in, then edit them out and try to find a funny way to put it.
