Question: ok so i was in school today and my teacher wuz talking bout how celebs make you buy ceiggarates and blah blah blah and blah the point is that spongebob was ment for ADULTS ONLY but then KIDS started watching it more and that how it became POPULAR it has violence cuz you know that episode when they were cursin and saying stupid that VIOLENCE and one thing my teacher said is think about the word BIKINI BOTTOM dnt you get it is about bikinies and put not the top but the bottom so thats one way of saying that SPONGEBOB IS FOR ADULTS!!!!!

Spongebob first appeared on Nick, a network for kids. Bikini Bottom has to do with the fact that the town is located next to an island (making it a beach), hence the name bikini -- and the fact that they are at the BOTTOM of the ocean, hence the name Bottom.
As for the "bad words" they were saying, the entire point of the show was that saying bad words is something you just don't do, not only because it's rude but because it's socially unacceptable (hence why all the customers left the Krusty Krab when Spongebob started swearing).
And as for the violence, what part of it is adult? The giant pink worms, the sponge vs the squirrel in a karate match -- what?

If WAS meant to be for adults. But then they Nick picked it up and had them edit things so it was more kid friendly.
yeah spongebob is for adults thats why its on nick, if it was an adult show it would not be on so early, it would be on at like midnight. and they dont even give adult shows on nick, they give teen shows like on nick@nite.
