Yes,unfortunately he is dead. During the fight with Pein Jiraiya had attacked him and though that he killed him. While Jiraiya was resting,Pein was still alive and came up from behind him and attacked him with a spear and stabbed him through his throat. Just before he died he left a note to one ot his toads telling what had happen and to warn the village as well and a another secret that we really don't know about yet,but which can only be unlocked,by Naruto,possibly telling him about his parents. Jiraiya also show Naruto's parent before he dies,showing who they were.

They faked Dumbledore's death so I don't see why they can't do the same for Jiraiya, the greatest Sannin to live!...next to Tsunade

I don't know exactly. It didn't show him really dead, but just about to die (I know, there was like 6 wounds). Well, i don't think he's really dead, bcuz I mean that he don't have to wait to show us that he is really dead, like after about 10 chapters.
