Good anime not based on manga? Good manga not made into anime?!
Question: Please give me suggestions, and don't give examples that don't fit the criteria. I'd like especially to find a good anime that wasn't based off of a manga.

For the most part anime come from somewhere first. If it's not manga, then it is almost certainly from a visual novel (aka pc game). True Tears, and Clannad are examples of such a case.
There are also times when the manga comes after an anime like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, or they both get released at the same time like in Code Geass.
Also, many series are based off Novels instead of manga like Baccano! or Kino's Journey.
True examples of seires that don't have another similar media (no game, manga, or novel) are Dennou Coil, Noir, Madlax, El Cazador de la Bruja, Gunbuster and Diebuster. Gunbuster and it's sequel Diebuster (unlike the rest) are short OAVs. OAVs and movies often don't have any other media preceding them as well.

Edit: ... EVERY series that Kurtis H, taireninaugh18, and Doushite Yagami Light?! have mentioned ALL come in both anime and manga media... I don't really know what they are talking about. A quick look on any anime encyclopedia confirms that...
Edit: Hrm... I never listed any good manga not made into anime, did I? This is A LOT easier, because if I start naming ongoing manga it may just be that they haven't been made into anime YET, but will in the future. Vinland Saga and Unbalance x Unbalance (korean, but amazing) come to mind immediately.
hmmmm......Full Metal Alchemist.? I think it was an anime first.

I'm not sure but i think that Samurai Champloo is not based on manga.

tsubasa:rc!~ was made into a pathethic anime,(because they only followed part of the plot, and the rest was some werid filler) so that might count.

(by the way, the person in front of me is right. fma's anime and manga plots diverge about halfway through, though. the manga is much better, but that's just me ^^;)
