The original Dragon Ball manga started in 1984. That's as old as I am! So yes, it's getting old... but it's a classic series that turned MANY people into fans of anime. It did for me anyways - it's like a gateway drug where you take one shot and you're addicted for life.
As for the comments about all the new shonen series being "better" than Dragon Ball... I think you have to credit Dragon Ball (and the creator Akira Toriyama) for really inspiring people. Do you think series like Naruto and One Piece don't have some elements of Dragon Ball in it? In fact, One Piece's creator credits Akira Toriyama (creator of Dragon Ball) as one of his idols growing up. Chances are those creators of Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece all grew up reading/watching Dragon Ball and probably drew a lot of Dragon Ball pictures like I know many people do today.
So if you think the animation looks better, just consider Dragon Ball was hand drawn with little aid from computers. The animation did vary a lot. If you go back and look at DBZ's Saiyan Story Arc you'll see some awful animation leading up tot he main fights, and then some really great animation once Goku landed and faught Napa. If that animation had been consistent, no one could complain about it. Also keep in mind that the US/English version of DBZ has different animation than the original. In my opinion, it doesn't look as good and it looks more like a cartoon (darker outlines of characters).
Well it is a classic, but I will alway love Dragonball Z. :) I like Gohan when he was super saiyan and fighting cell, he was great then. Too bad he turned into such a wimp.

well the animation quality looks old now and after watching many anime its quite repetitive but i still think its a classic
it may not be as good as newer shonen anime but when i was a kid dragonball z was the best and i loved watching it, like i never been more excited in any anime den when i first saw goku turn super saiyan for the first time it was so awesome!
its still popular as ever so i dont think that its really getting old.
my favs gohan super saiyan rage II when he was fighting Cell ^^ den he sucked when he turned into a adult in GT
