The real Captain America (Steve Rogers) died a few months Iron Man is trying to replace him with Bucky (aka Winter Soldier) mostly because of guilt but also because he feels that America needs Captain America no Matter who it is behind the mask. Right now Bucky is using a handgun but I will bet within the next few issues he will be convinced that that isn't what Steve would have wanted and gets rid of it.

Bucky took over for Cap, and yes he does use a handgun.
Remember, Captain America was a soldier before being Capt America. He would have no hesitation using a gun I imagine.

No Super-Soldier serum, so he's gotta be strapped! How about the Alex Ross shiny-armor Cap? Wait until the the end of Secret Invasion...they'll find a way to bring Steve Rogers back. After all, SHIELD has his body right now...
