Dubbed Anime?!

Question: people say voice actors in dubbed anime are bad but at the same time they say Fullmetal Alchemist was better dubbed and had good voice actors when those voice actors appear in every other anime, Hohenheim is played by Scott McNeil for example who voiced Duo Maxwell (Gundam Wing) and Koga (InuYasha).

can someone please explain that?

PS: 4Kids dubs are bad, I know but I'm talking aboout Ocean Group and Viz and FUNimation. (the pros)

I would prefer dubbed over the Japanese original i hate reading and i think the japanese sound funny

Its just the voice actors who do the dubbing,it depends if they sound like the original voice or not.

Japanese voice actors and English voice actors both work hard, and frankly, I like dubs and subs both and don't see why one can be considered stupid for liking dubs..For me, it depends upon how I started out watching the anime (in sub or dub).

I really like Viz, FUNimation, ADV..can't remember 4kids

I dont really care if the dubbed voice actors sound like the original japanese voice actors.

Why most people say that the dubbed version usually sucks is this: Think about all those old Japanese godzilla movies... You would see some japanese actors mouth moving while the english was put over the top of it, but then the japanese guys mouth would stop but the english translation was still going, or vice versa. This also applies to dubbed anime. Sometimes the english voice actors are really off and dont match the speed of the lips of the anime character and the audio and video are off.

This is why I prefer the japanese versions better than the english versions usually. Though there are exceptions: FMA, Kenshin, etc.

All anime is good.

I like the dubbs for fullmetal alchemist, Inuyasha, bleach and deathnote, but for Naruto the dubbed voice acter for Naruto is sooooo annoying

heres my personal opinoin, when you listen to the japanese voices they are fine, hearing the emotion and strength they portray for the character sets a standard that many fans are looking for when its dubbed to english. IMO so far only the great hardcore animes had gotten decent voice actors or in this case the company places a lot of effort to find the english voices that match the characters looks and personality. like narutos english actors suck, and i believe that because funimation is portraying it as a +12 show instead of the +16 year old show it should be. all time best english dubbed to me is cowboy bebop, thats a standard right there

Well it honestly depends. Usually I tend to strongly dislike dubbed anime. In my opinion, anime a part of the Japanese culture and by taking the Japanese audio out, it really isn't authentic anymore. However, there are a rare few anime series/movies that I've seen where the English-speaking voice actors do a fantastic job. Therefore, I don't really think you should say things like "Dubbed anime sucks!" because it's not always true.

Anyway, hope this answers your question!
