Question: Ganju's brother was a death god. He was killed by Rukia. Does anyone know why she killed him? Supposedly he thanked her for killing him. Does anyone know the side story to this? Is this in the manga? Thanks

You should go back and watch (or read) it again. It was kinda important...
He fought a hollow that had the ability to control people alone, since he wanted revenge for it killing his wife (I think). It beat him, and made him start attacking Rukia. She then had to kill him in order to survive. He thanked her because she had saved him from becoming a puppet of a hollow.
Kaien asked Rukia to kill him because he was possed by the hollow, and didn't want anyone to get hurt.
Kaien told her to do so, Ganju's bro was controlled by a hollow and started to attack the people and hurt them!
yeah, it was showed in the anime..

Kaien was being controlled by the hollow so Rukia had to kill him to get rid of the hollow, Kaien didn't want to let the monster go so he thanked Rukia for killing it even though it cost his own life.
