Death Note.
It's absolutely amazing. Throughout all 37 episodes I was hooked all the way through. Each episode ended with a cliffhanger and I didn't want to stop watching. Plus the plot was so unpredictable and you never knew what was going to happen next. I also loved watching it from the perspective of two genius', it was an anime that really got my mind working.

YuYu Hakusho, because i've seen it since i was a kid, and made me a real anime lover. i haven't watched for about 8 years now, but i still remember all the character, and the anime's plot. it is one of the anime that i could say is different from all the animes, that was made before it. the opening, the plot, the characters, and their abilities are amazing. my favorite character is hiei, and kurama! they are so cute! it kind of resembles to hunterxhunter, flame of recca, bleach, and many more, so that's how i know it really is popular. it was made as a model of some modern shounen animes.
I have alot but since you said one then..D.N.Angel!! Its has fantasy, its romantic, it can be a little funny, I feel like I resemble one of the characters, Dark is hot, and I just LOVE Daisuke(Niwa)!! Its a great show all in all. Even the dub is good. :D What about yours? ...By the way..Death Note is amazing(not my favorite though..)!! I love your avatar..the guy really does look like L..go L!! ^_^
5 Centimeters per Second is easily my favorite anime of all time.
Without going on and on about how absolutely amazing I think 5 Centimeters per Second was: The background imagery is ridiculously beautiful, the story is sweet, and the characters are incredibly realistic.
It's a masterpiece. I wish more people would take the time to see it.
This is so hard since I have like a billion favorites, but since you insist I would have to say Howl's Moving Castle. It was one of the most interesting animes I had ever seen, it had an interesting storyline as well as amazing artwork. It was the movie that drew me into watch other Hayao Miyazaki movies. Let m stop here before I start rambling on forever.

This is my all time favorite anime Cardcaptor Sakura. It has everything without going over board, action, comedy and romance. It has great art and it's long. Also it has two movies that complete the series nicely. :)
Berserk is a good one of story line and picture.
One Piece
I like everything about it, I'm obsessed with it, in my opinion it's a perfect anime with everything you need, at least it fullfilled my needs and I really enjoy it, especially the characters, it's hard to hate anyone from it, plus it's damn hilarious, I love it, I just love it, everything is just so amazing, from the plot to the actions and humour, one piece makes you laugh to your hardest, yet it makes you so sad that you'd like to cry, that's how it is!
but you're so mean for letting us choosing only one, anyways, my all-time favourite anime series are One Piece and Death Note!
