Most saddest death or someone who got close to dying scene in anime?!
Question: There are times when one of your favorite anime character seems to be on the brink of death and it can be the saddest thing ever... even more if they actually do die.

I was yelling out why and on the brink of tears. It made me feel the same way as when I was watching Wolf's Rain. I was mad throughout the whole show cause I did not want any of them to die.
Grave of the Fireflies. If you seen it then you probably know who I'm talking about, but if not I won't ruin it.
Julia in Cowboy Bebop was also sad.
I think it would be Chouji's chakra butterfly state. It was really sad with the music and his eye area turning black. And then seeing the butterfly at the end, it was all i could do to keep myself from crying, and it was hard.
Edit- Oh yeah the whole Grave of the Fireflies movie is so sad.
Edit- Lights death, i cryed and was very angry he should not have died. It was so sad to see a good man die.

I was expecting such a happy ending through the entire series which made her "death" even more sad.
oh my.. i have to say it's saya from black cat, while i was watching her slowly die, i was crying and shaking. her last words to train were so touching, i kept on crying, and was so angry at creed. yes, saya did died.

I think the most dramatic deaths in all the anime/mangas I watched is a Jiraiya's from Naruto and Light's from Death Note.
I mean Jiraiya was such an awesome character, (hilarious, powerful, you know) and he died because of Pein... so sad
and
Light's the main character! That's why, when he died, the whole thing ended... depressing, even if he was crazy

Darn..Hard question....Let's see..You have Nicholas D. Wolfwood in "Trigun", The Band of the Hawks in "Berserk",Spike in "Cowboy Bebop", Roy Folker in "Robotech", not to forget these movies; Jin-roh,Grave of the Fireflies,Voices from a Distant Star,5cm, or Blue Gender....For me if the character is well devloped and he has a good story, I get so wraped up in the story and want to see more...I also weep when I saw "Toboe's big scene"...
i remember watching sailor moon as a kid..man the saddest moment in anime for me was when molly watched that nephlite (spelling or even correction?) boyfriend of hers die.....

I remembered in Naruto Shippuuden, it was the episodes where Gaara died....and then relived by elder Chiyo.
At first, when I saw Deidara taking him to the place and them stucking the life out of my Gaara...I was like.................NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...
and then when elder Chiyo reivived him, i was like...WOOOOOHOOOOO GOOOOO ELDER CHIYO!!!!!!!!!!!!but then she died and then I felt sooo sad...
and i gotta agree with you, number 2 is Chouji fighting that ninja. it made me notice him soooo much more.

It may not be a death per se, but when everyone started to and then forgot Fu from Clannad and she disappeared. She did reappear at the wedding, but then disappeared again right after, but the saddest part was when everyone forgot her.
Cowboy Bebop, Spike's supposed death after his final fight with Vicious.(I shall pray he LIVED.)
The end of Wolf's Rain.
Yusuke's death from YuYu Hakusho, both at his original funeral when everyones crying, and when he dies a second time.

* Oh and when Sai (Hikaru no Go)'s soul dissapeared, at that time I didn't cry, but when Hikaru started to realize Sai wouldn't return, he cried, I also cried with him! T.T
* Another one is from the manga of Samurai Deeper Kyo, when Sasuke's childhood friend died, forgot his name...
lighto-kun's death.....it was horrible....so sad yet slightly pathetic...but it made me cry...

I think it would be either Chrno Crusade...that was sooo sad..or it would be the scene in the anime Petite Princess Yucie(Puchi Puri Yuushi)...when her friends..ummm..i can't give it away, cause you might end up watching it....but that was the anime I cried most about..TT^TT
I think when Haku died from Naruto and when Choji almost died that was pretty upsetting.
