Why do people get completely obsessed with anime?!
Question: Seriously, people don't just like anime, they get completely obsessed. I admit that I like the style they draw in, but some people go too far. My friend talks about how "hot" someone from Naruto is and it is starting to scare me. Someone please tell me about the obsession.

Unfortunately, people can go too far. As a more matured anime lover, I don't go crazy over characters, nor do I get completely obssessed over certain ones that I like. Although I might stay online alittle longer to get some good posters for my computer background. (^_^)
But it is possible that people can go over the top. It's the same when people obssess about politics, environmentalism, over maths, over motorbikes, over cars, over money, over their job, over personal status and over vainity. Sigh*...
It's an imperfect world of imperfect people, of course people can go over the balance and become obssessed.

Rather than saying some characters are "hot", i personally prefer to go with, let's say:
1. Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy VII is a really good looking guy. He's an awesome design, but of course, that does not mean I'm crazy about him 100%, can't sleep, can't eat, put his pic on all over the room, and go through extremes to cosplay him til I broke.
Even though Vincent is my favorite characters, I actually don't like Dirge of Cerberus that much, only his design.
Anime fans who have more matured views and rounded perspective of anime will be able to put matters into perspective and act matured regarding viewing, watchiing, as well as enjoying anime.
Why some characters are so appealing to others, is because of over lapping personality traits between the character and the viewer. Fans idolize the anime and the characters, and hence make a big deal out of them. Obsession can be very unhealthy as one constantly fantasizes about the character--and then gets into buying expensive anime merchandize, dolls, posters, etc (I get mine all free online) XD.
The characters are designed to be attractive to attract fans. Otherwise comics won't sell. But some works truly are one of a kind, and I don't judge people for buying them. But of course, obsessive, immatured infatuation over any characters, and crushes are not very good at all to personal developement.
Good anime fans still sees the line between anime and reality, obssessive fans don't. Honestly, it's fine to quote your favorite character, but not good if you start to act, talk, think, and dress 100% like him or her, that's idolatry.

Well... Some people wish they had a boyfriends like some one in Naruto and since they can't find the perfect "Badboy" or the "Sentimental" guy in real life, they settle for the next best thing, some one who exisists in a manga or an anime.
Why do people get addicted to nicotine? It's basically the same principle. I'm "obsessed" because I just absolutely love anime, Why is it so weird to you that people enjoy anime so much. If you are a anime fan then it's like playing your favorite game because you just want to keep going.
i dont think it's an obsession... or at least with me it isnt. i like anime but im not obsessed with it. most anime has awesome storylines, and great in-depth characters, dont hate.

Because it just an interesting thing to get into. Its different from standard cartoons you see an America. Anime as well as manga follows different plots as well as different styles of drawing. Anime tend to show things and idea's that America usually doesn't. It also have to do with the wide variety anime out there so there something out there for everyone. It also has to do with the interesting plot and the developing characters that follow in the manga/anime.
Theres no problem with it, they just like it. Its something they're interested in. I like anime alot, but I don't see it as your portraying we anime addicts do.
They could be people who just have obsessive personalities, and would be obsessed with something else if they weren't obsessed with anime. I think, for the most part, we're looking at fairly young people (middle school students through high school students) who will likely outgrow their anime (and manga) obsessions. I suspect most of them don't have much going on in their lives and that anime is a substitute for a number of things.
When I get a chance (which may not be for a few months), I'm going to check through some current psychology journals and see if there are any reported cases of "Anime Obsession." We may be looking at a new clinical condition.
why do people like you care what others are in to i dont watch TV cuz frankly it bores me to death i have been watching anI'me since i was 14 and im 22 now does that make me obsessed? or the fact that i have stuff that was in animes? or that i also think some anime characters are freakin gorgeous? Well I don't really know why, maybe it's because the storys are good. Or maybe if you watch anything to much you can be obsessed.
