Question: So are they not going to have like 100+ episodes like some good long running cartoons? Because this show looks like it will write up to like 60-80 episodes and stop there because of the storyline.

They are having exactly 61 episodes, 20 for the first and second seasons and then 21 for the third, the extra 1 added to the four episode finale. They are not under any contract to create more seasons, all they said was, at the San Diego Comic Con, the current story arc will be finished with season 3, but we have more stuff coming. Several times they were asked about a fourth season, and several times we received vague hints that we may be seeing more stuff from the avatar world.
It could be... hey some of the best anime shows are only like 30-50 episodes top..
It certainly does look like it will have an actual ending, though I haven't read anywhere how many episodes there will actually be. I just wish they would come out with more newer episodes more frequently. I'm dying to know what will happen next! :)
According to the writers, the current storyline is going to end after this season. However, they are under contract for a full 5 seasons and they have said they will continue with another storyline.
