CRYING FREEMAN is the answer to all your questions thats my favorite anime.
I would recommend Fate Stay Night. Very intricate plots and character development. Then there's Full Metal Panic that is still interesting but more on the lighter side.
I would also recommend the Gundam SEED and SEED Destiny series. Then Macross Frontier in March 2008. Then second season of Code Geass in April 2008

Black Lagoon has a boat load of action. You could get lead poisoning just watching this show.
If you like continual plot twists and killer loli's try Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
Maybe Cowboy Bebop?? Or Trigun?? Im not sure any anime SHOW would fufill your requirements lol. Try some Anime Movies!
