The reason Sasuke fought Naruto on top of the hospital was because he was angry that Naruto was becoming stonger than him. His Kage Bunshin clones were improving, he now has Rasengan... everything was in Naruto's favor. Sasuke couldn't even lay a scratch on Itachi.
So they fought, but then Kakashi talked to Sasuke after the fight. This talk only left him more confused. Yes, Naruto was one of his best friends - but no, he was also a rival, just someone he had to become stronger than to beat Itachi.
When the Sound Four came, it did not help. They just proved to Sasuke that the only reason to become stronger was to join Orochimaru and leave the weak Hidden Leaf Village. How was this proved? When Sakon easily countered Sasuke's ShiShi Rendan by activating the curse seal -- which he received from Orochimaru.
So basically, yes, the reason why he left the village was power. He wanted more power and the only way to acheive it was through Orochimaru. He wanted power to kill Itachi.

becuz he want to kill itachi(his older brother)...if you see in naruto shipudeen,sasuke and naruto is more handsome becuz they have grown up!!!!
well when the sound 5 showed up he was in a confused state of mind after he discovered just how much naruto'spower has grown and the difference in power between each other. the sound 5 just took advantage of that situation and sort of twisted his mind, but in truth sasuke is just seeking more power to catch up to his brother'power and be able to face him off 1 on 1, and finally kill him, and he thought that if he stayed in konoha then achieveing great power was gonna take a long time, also beacuse if he stayed wth naruto he won't be able to be evil or hate ppl, hence he believed if he left, then he can grow his hatred towards his big bro and gain more power from orochimaru.
he thought that staying in the village wouldn't make him as stron as he would be after training with orochimaru(he knew that he wanted his body so badly that he would put a lot of effort to make him strong)
or another possibility is that he is stupid(it's hard for me to say this because i'm a sasuke fan):(
He became untwisted with power. He realized that naruto was getting stronger and by staying in the village, he would eventually be hindered by feelings and emotions from his friends thus decreasing his power and motivation for revenge. He found that out and was pissed off by naruto's rasengan in the back of the little water tower. After Kakashi gave him a lecture, he still had hatred for his brother and the sound 4 sparked that hatred again by showing him how weak he was and offered him an alternative way to obtain power. He most likely questioned whether to abandon his friends or join orochimaru for the entire day until nightfall by the tree and that is when the sound 4 influenced his decision by reminding him of how weak he really was. Orochimaru's method to attaining power was the quickest way for his revenge

He left the village because the Sound 4 tempted him by saying " Orochimaru will give you the power you desire to defeat Itachi blah, blah,blah" and Sasuke was stupid enough to fall into their plan.
