Do you think the "West" should be making more serious animation?!

Question: Since the popularity of anime, people have complained about the lack of seriousness in Western animation. Do you think about now, that the West would have learned to make animation for diffrent ages groups about diverse subjects?

However it seems went backwards and just started copying influence directly in only art style alone. :(

We should. Pixar has done a great job of bringing CGI-style animation to the forefront and making movies that everyone (not just kids) can enjoy, but that's only half the battle.

There was an attempt a few years ago with "A Scanner Darkly" but that was rotoscoping, not really anime.

I'd like to see a US or European production along the lines of the original "Ghost in the Shell", "Witch Hunter Robin" or "Grave of the Fireflies" - something that's in no way intended for kids.

I'd like to see animation recognized as simply a medium which can be used for ANY subject matter- just as live actors can.

Most Western cartoons have been funny since 1895, there are some that have been serious, but mostly funny....why change things 113 years later? If it isn't broke, why try to fix it?

Let the Japanese continue their way and let's continue our way.

no, it's better having two distinct types of animation.(anime and cartoons). I only watch anime, but some people like american cartoons. Why change anything?
