Gundam and Transformers?!
Question: Ok, this is not a question about which is better. I just wanted to know if Gundam was based off of Transformers. (it's pretty obvious that Gundam is much better anyway. Go Gundam Wing wooooooo)

Gundam popularized giant military robots, first aired in Japan at 1979.
Macross popularized giant transforming military robots, first aired in Japan at 1982.
Transformers popularized the concept of a whole series dedicated to only giant transforming sentient robots, first aired in the U.S.A at 1984 and first aired in Japan at 1985.
Z Gundam is the first Gundam TV series that showed a transforming Gundam, first aired in Japan at 1985.
Note: Jetfire/Skyfire from Transformers was based on the VF-1 Valkyrie from Macross, the toy Jetfire even used the same fabrication mold that was used to create the toy VF-1 Valkyrie.
