Why are anime fans so senstive?!

Question: I'm not an anime fan, some animes I will look but I don't call myself a fan. One thing that has shocked me is how people can become overlysenstive and prideful when it comes to anime. WHY? Tell an anime fan you don't like anime because of the style your head bitten off for it. Tell them you don't like a certain anime series, you get kicked in the groins.

I like animation but I'm not an anime fan and because most anime fans tend to develop an elitist mindframe. No thanks I can watch Wolf's Rain or (insert random) without being a fan.

Hmmm, maybe it's the individual theirself that acts that way. Also, there are different classifications of anime. Maybe they are into the more deeper, and philosophical anime, and it offends them when you comment about it.

I'm an anime fan myself, and I don't really care if I were to get any disses about any of the anime I watch or if anyone doesn't show interest in the same anime I watch, it doesn't bother me.

Also, maybe they spend most of the time watching anime, and that it becomes a hobby of theirs, that may effect them as an individual. They may take it seriously, and see it as you not accepting them., or any similar reactions.

You shouldn't let it bother you, those people don't sound emotionally mature enough to accept that maybe not everyone around them share the same tastes, they need to accept it. They just need a little bit of growing up to do, thats all.

that's so funny I have a twin brother and I tease him about his anime characters all the time.

it's something that they just feel is really important to them as their hobby

It's a strange thing... Perhaps anime just attracts that kind of person? That's all I can come up with....

Either that or it's because most of them tend to be 14 year old girls who also love Final Fantasy (At least, that's been my experience)

Good question. Probably because people would consider some cartoon characters as their idols, and it would be like insulting them if someone told them that he or she wasn't a fan.

because anime is AWSOME DUH!

and i know what your talking about your right anime is very important to me. i would get mad if someone said they hated it. i cant really explain why though. its just something cool.

I dunno for sure but I'll take a stab. I think their personal connection to the "values" of the anime is important. Stuff like seeing attitudes and off beat permited behavior is imporant to them as belonging to a community that thinks like them.
I made the mistake once of saying that I have seen a TON of anime and I have and really did not find 90% of it very good at all, and got my head bit off. I then told them I am an animator and I see again a TON of animation and there are some of my favorites that Anime but then described why and they understood my point and let me have my opinion.
I think they just like Trekker's take thier entertainment a lil to close to home, so if you rebuke it your somehow rebuking them and thats just not the case.

Anime may be a way to escape reality for a while, but when you say you dont like the things that people hold really close to them then they get insulted, and think that youre just judging them and all that good stuff... i would take offence if people told me they hated the things that i love so much...your right we are sensitive about what we watch, but thats because we use them to survive reality and hold on to something better, unrealistic, and likable!!
hope i helped

i'm not a general anime fan but i'm a huge fan of full metal alchemist. i think the reason we're sensitive about our favorite animes is because of the fact that we're tired of people thinking of them as a cartoon or a kids show.

the thing that i most get annoyed about is people saying "their mouths don't even match up with the words!" no **** they don't match up. it was translated from japanese!

another thing id the fact that most people don't really understand what animes are. alot of people just think it's a bunch of random episodes with no link like a cartoon. most people who haven't watched animes also think of them as just being a bunch of fighting. if you watch FMA, you'll find that their alchemic powers are explained, and the fighting element is much less important than the story element.

all of these problems stem from one thing and that's the fact that most people who crtisize animes have never taken the time to watch and understand them. ofcourse, there are some bad animes, but there are some people who simply dismiss them all.

Well I don't think all anime fans are sensitive. Maybe you are the one whose rubbing then the wrong way. There are loads of things I don't agree on with other people in this world I don't go and tell them face front that I don't like.

Must be something called tact

I know what you mean. I like anime but I'm not a hard core fan who will die just to defend Naruto's honor.

I have a friend who's obsessed with not only anime but with the whole Japanese colture! He goes as far as buying those gummie things they sell at Suncoast that are from Japan and cost around 6 to 8 bucks!

But yeah, I can't say that I don't like Evangalion or Tenchimuyo or he'll throw a fit and call me a "unloyal" fan.

It's one of the great mysteries of life. I understand what you're saying. Almost everyone has a hobby, but some people take their hobbies to an obsessive level.
It's not much different than the Trekkies learning to speak Klingon or the fans of Futurama decoding the alphabet created for the series.

I'm obsessed with the art and animation of the Hanna-Barbera studio...especially The Flintstones. The difference between me and other obsessed fans is that I can make fun of my obsession and have a sense of humor about it...a lot of people can't do that.

Take what the others have answered..
just an addition to anime fan that i would do/be..
If a person insulted an anime that i like or anime i would be so upset,, especially when they say it unreasonable just saying that it's gay (no offense), stupid and all that crap-
I admit that some of anime ARE that, but since they reffering to ALL anime then i wouldn't agree.
It just that they dont understand that some of anime are amazing [like the art, story, and the humor the author create],.. So I would want to explain that anime has a lot of various interest in genre by its own author to them [something like that] without a very sensitive attitude.

I would understand if a person is NOT interested in an anime. That's fine, it doesn't hurt my feelings or anything..
i dont put much interests in some anime that some ppl do really like or love to that particular anime, but i respect what they have interest in.

So, all anime fans are different.

anime people are fake want-to-be cartoons, escaping life. period. next question?
