TRUE Anime fans??!!!!!????!

Question: Who would you consider a TRUE anime fan? like what does he/she have to do to be one? what do you think??

i believe that a TRUE anime fan should have watched AT LEAST 10-15 animes. at least.... at the very minimum.

if you just watch like 2 shows that does not make you a TRUE anime fan. that makes you a fan of that show.... in my opinion.

so what is a TRUE anime fan??
your ideas??

and more importantly, do you consider yourself to be an TRUE anime fan?
approx. how many animes have you seen?

thanks for your answers. i just want to know.

A true anime fan doesn't necessarily seen thousands of mangas within their lifetime. I believe that TRUE quote on quote anime fan is one who buys the work or the manga or the anime of the artist instead of going online and downloading it down because this way you respect the artist and the work. A true anime fan is someone who is willing to pay up money for something to see or get instead of getting it free and illegally online.

Now this may seem really proposterous but true anime fans aren't like once they see the anime, they forget it or go download another anime. True anime fans put thoughts on watching which anime is suited for them, not necessarily watching tons of anime.

Edit: What you have said is very true. I guess it all boils down to how passionate you are about anime. I guess its okay if your in poverty or can't afford it. However you do have to give back some feedback and even if you don't give back some feedback, at least watch the anime for memories and don't watch it just because its popular . Watch it because you like it. And if you can, give back some feedback like to forums and write recommendations on the anime or manga at least to make more people like anime and to gain support for artists: for other people who can afford to buy at least some manga or anime.

It's also about how much dedication and devotion you put into manga or animes and about you as an individual enjoying it. However at the same time, keep it a balance, you wouldn't want to live your life in a fantasy world and not go to school but stay home and watch anime all day long.

Its not just about the shows. I think a "true" anime fan should have read a few mangas first. I believe mangas are more authentic animes than just the shows.

I am a true anime fan. Truth be told at this moment i'm not sure how meny animes i'm watching.

I've seen too meny to count. @_@

err... i think im a true enough anime fan. i guess i agree a bit on the 1-2 shows thing cuz my friend only watches naruto and is obsessed about it but that makes her a naruto fan not an anime fan. i watched a bit over 10 now but im all caught up on naruto (love sasuke <3~) anyway, i hope that helps you. this is what i think: u like japanese art and the way the storylines usually goes, ur a real anime fan and if you cant determine that just by one or two anime. so there you go. good luck~!

if you're a true anime fan, you must watch a lot of anime.

however, you must also know a lot of facts about those anime you've watched.

put an anime background on your friendster, myspace, or any other profile.

sing along with the anime openings and endings

collects anime accessories, and things

Edit: my family is poor, so i can't afford to buy anime dvds, and manga. does that mean i'm not a fan? i've watched over 100 of anime, and seen them all in the internet. i only borrow manga from the library where i do community service.

-i can't remember the rest.i have been watching anime as far as i can remember.

I've seen over 15 animes and i become a fan in late october or early november...First i became a Fan of Bleach..now i'm fan of Anime..and its never been so addicting...i also own all the animes that i've seen..

I can say I'm a true anime fan..my few first anime is dragon ball, yuyu hakusho, GS mikami (also, I love Shin Chan) which some ppl here havent heard of since it was quite a long time ago, and I've watched at least 5 anime per year (depending on new animes for that year)
and have been following at least 4 manga, the longest is in the 48th series..
I search all the website regarding the animes and manga I read, their powers, their swords...

I download the sountrack that I like, can sing most of them, tho I cant understand what it was singing..lol
and set most of them in my handphones ringtones

I discussed them with my brothers like they're a real life person, with like and dislikes on their behavior or power and list out our favorite comedy moment..and imitate them whenever we can..

I'm very generous in sharing my fav anime's cd, but not manga cos I want everybody to see it..

so yeah, I'm a true fan

true anime fan....hmm...
Well, I personally think that a true anime fan has to have watched almost ALL of 10-15 entire series. I also think he/she would have to know pretty much EVERYTHING about the anime(s) and read the manga, also.
I don't think that the fan has to necessarily own any anime, manga, or any kind of merchandise. I think that just so long as they absolutely love anime and try to read, watch, and know as much as I can...then they are truly a fan.
I just hate those people who have only seen, like, Pokemon, Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Avatar, then go around saying they are fans.....NO! A true anime fan should go above those popular animes that are on ALL the time...a true anime fan stays up late to watch them, watches them on the internet, or rents just about as much as they can...even though they don't necessarily know someone who has seen those ones.
This is my own, personal opinion. I know many who may not agree

I've watched 43 animes and I'm always looking for new animes to watch....so I consider myself a true anime fan!
^___^

I agree with Anonymous,,
a true anime fan should know its founding father, Tezuka Osamu. [he is incredibly amazing. Search about him, and a thing you wouldn't found is that he inspired Akira Toriyama who inspired Tite Kubo and Masashi Kishimoto]
You are passionate about it that it inspires you to do positive things in life, and know what you should take from the positive message the author wanted to tell you.
Great example in Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece: Nakama.
A true anime fan may watch a lot of anime, but they aren't an "otaku" (no offense).
You would also done some art-related about anime (like make fanart and fanmaga etc), but still respect the author's work by give them credits.
You would understand such an unusual plot story since you already used to entertained by stories from either manga or anime or even other entertainments.
It’s about understanding what you have watched.
you would've check the anime informations that you might want to know (knowing well about general anime-related informations).
And you would probably want to learn Japanese.
[and you would know the theme and song theme of the anime that you've watched (now, i really admire YUI's and Younha's music because they have theme songs that apeared in BLEACH)]

I'm not sure if I am a true anime fan because there's more of it to describe.
But I really admire mangakas' excellent work/drawings and a good manga influence artist's drawing. I also really like to get some inspirations and entertainments from anime, and get excited to watch a new one. Since I really like anime and manga [and Japanese Pop culture] so much, I decided to write about Tezuka Osamu for my research paper =]

edit: [wow i posted this, 5 ppl i havent seen already answered]

Guess I can call my self a true anime fan and like ppl say you have to respect the artists behind the anime coz without them, there won't be any anime.

But I wonder, does falling in love with anime characters count.

a true anime fan would be someone who watches the anime for fun and never tries to just finish a story. I be live to tell if someone is a true anime fan you need to watch there reaction to any final episode of a anime. If there always looking for the happily ever after ending in everything anime they see there no true anime fan

I'm not sure if I agree with that. I've watched about 12 different anime series and I wouldn't call myself an anime fan at all.

A few of the stories got me hooked and were pretty good. I thought some of them very boring and I found almost all of them to be poorly animated...the drawings and the posing were great, but the animation itself was very bad (from a technical standpoint).

in my opinion the only true way to be an anime fan is to watch it in Japanese with subtitles.

you know i should get the 10 points for this one. come on all of you who answered....search your hearts you know i am right. the only anime worth watching in English is dragonball z.

i am a true anime fan. i watch my anime in Japanese, sometimes even without subtitles even though i have no clue what the hell is going on at times. i am a true anime fan because i collect everything that has to do with anime movies, manga, figures, stickers, art books you name it i collect it. and i am also a true anime fan because i draw anime and wish to have my own manga some day.

i am also a true anime fan because i have been to Tokyo japan!

so please, may i have the 10 points?

oh i forgot something..i am also a true anime fan because when i come to the end of watching really good anime i find myself getting upset that it was only 12 or 13 eps, and i wonder why God wants to punish me in such a way.

Hey- what are you talking about? That's a die hard anime fan! True ones are much less severe.
You become a true anime fan when you start thinking in anime. For example, if you picture someone in your head, you picture them animated with anime eyes and the classic anime spiky hair. Also, when you try to style your hair and clothes just like a character. *starts looking guilty* I'll probably think of more reasons l8er! :)

well,I have seen about 10 different animes and read 7 different mangas....I consider myself a true anime fan though...I love it.....

I am a true anime fan. I have watched about 13 animes.

True anime fans should be honest that they really like to watch animes w/o lie or something else. They can't say that they are anime fans cuz they only like to ba called anime fans, If they are just forcing themselves to watch it! Loving to watch animes can do too, like if one looks addicted(in watching animes ofcourse) and stucked infront of the tv watching anime for hours and hours and loves anime so much that he talks about it everytime and thinks about it always. Most of them like Japan cuz of the animes...

That's what I think
