Question: there is going to be a second season. The shows creators have only just finished Lucky Star and have been a bit tardy with the 2nd haruhi season which was originally due for japan (and fansubbing) release december 2007 but it has now been penciled in for a spring release.
Promotional posters have been around japan for months so it is a deffinate. One of the plot lines confirmed is where the SOS brigade (minus haruhi) go back to check out the events of three years ago, mentioned in nearly every episode of series 1.

that was back in 06 and there were only 14 episodes...

The Haruhi second season site went down and gave the information that the second season they were working on was "cancelled", and replaced by 'The Disappearance of haruhi Suzumiya' which is a new project that the directors are working on. I'm not sure when it will air...
