i just started on an anime called: "Texhnolyze" today... and let me just say.... in the 1st/2nd ep they like cut off this dudes arm and leg.... (the main character) with a sword... (not a samurai anime)... if thats not gore then i dont know what is! ^_~+

Akira is pretty decent for "gory."
trinity blood, desert punk, death note and ghost in the shell is pretty good...
death note isnt gory all the time but the concept is pretty gruesome
