Most anime is based on legend and folklore, some of which is believed to be true. The feudal era in japan, the time in which Inuyasha takes place, is real, and a lot of Japanese people are very superstitious and spiritual. No one can tell you for certain, but my guess would be that like other anime, Inuyasha was based on myth, and myth is usually based on a truth no one can prove or disprove.
o yea there really is a half dog half human demon person creature with extemely long white hair that fights demons in his spare time while trying to get all the pieces of a smashed jewel with the help of a comletely useless gurl
