what attracts me to it....

well, for starters, the art. i find the art in anime to be wonderful!!

the story lines are awesome! unlike most american cartoons, anime has such a diversed variety of genres!! its fascinating!!

The culture in general!! though not all animes take place in japan, actually alot dont, i find the japanese culture to be incredible, and i love watching the ones that take place in japan. (though... alot of my faves do not.... heh heh ^^)

i also learn alot and get into alot of things because of anime. ever since i saw the anime "inuyasha" (my "first" and fave anime) i have become interested in many things! i take japanese classes, i draw anime style, i'm into rpg games, ive started writing novels (yes, there are manga novels), ive become interested in studying and listening to classical music as well as other genres of music. i owe alot to anime ^^

and manga is incredible!! to be honest, i learn more from manga then in anime. i love reading and i love how each page looks!! people think that reading manga is nothing more than reading a comic, but that is not so. there are alot of manga-ka (creators of manga) who are incredible writers! my vocabulary has really increased as well!

ive been into anime for about four years now... and honestly.... i dont think ill ever get over it. not ever. it has influenced me way too much to allow me to go back to how i used to be.

even y personality has changed!! people think that i am over exaggerating when i say that after getting into anime and manga i have become a much more cheerful person ^^ but i really have ^^ tee hee ^^

(btw, i also take at least one manga with me everywhere i go. its something i have to do. if i dont.....*sigh* but i always have anime on my ipod lol!!) i also spend alot of money on it.... but to me it makes me happy ^^ i'm guessing your son is feels something similar)

good luck!! i hope this helps you in some way!

In your son's case, maybe it helps him boost his self-confidence..coz most anime characters are courageous and has high self-esteem!
Im an anime fan too. I like coz they feed my imaginations.

hope that helped u understand your child...

The same thing that attracts comic book fans to comic books, or action figure collectors to action figures. I'd say that the thing that really attracts me to anime is the artistic style. I think that the characters just look cool. Also, there's some anime that has some really interesting storylines, while western animation is mostly geared towards kids (with several exceptions), there is a lot more anime that has more mature themes and is meant for an older audience.

Well.. The one anime that I like is D*N*Angel.. It's awesome.. But the thing I like about them is just the fact that they are out there.. I'm an out there kind of person.. I like things that are different.. And some of those animes are just awesome.. But I can tell you one thing.. I bet you watch anime without knowing it.. Anime is short for animation.. South Park is anime.. Drawn Together, Family Guy, American Dad.. They're all anime and you just don't know that.. Umm.. Futurama.. A lot of people like that.. It's not just those wierd haired, fighting and arguing books and stuff.. But I understand why he's obsessed with it.. I have tons of friends who are obsessed.. Exactly like your son.. But some of them have grown out of it or are starting to grow out of it.. Chances are, your son will grow out of it sooner or later.. And if he doesn't, you could always use it as a career choice.. Those people make tons of money..

Anime has a level of depth that is rather akin to literary novels. Where American cartoons are of the nature of "bop, squish, squeak," anime stories portray the characters' problems, how they solve them, the happiness that comes with this, etc. Loving relationships are accurately portrayed in these stories as well -- which can range from close friendship to true romance.

Where in earlier generations there were some kids referred to as bookworms, these days one can get eh same gratification of a good book in animated form -- plus it's easier to grasp due to its visual nature.

To me, the stories depicted in anime have more depth than most prime-time television programming. If you can get past the fact it is animated, and if you can handle the reading of subtitles, many anime titles can actually enrich your life, should you decide to join your son in viewing it. And yes, watching anime can be a family event just as much as sitting down in front of a TV is -- and yes, I do include both the positive and negative connotation in that last description.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!! My daughter (17)is soooo talented as an artist, but about the only thing she will draw or even consider is that anime stuff. She has pages and pages of anime things she has drawn. My son (10) was obsessed for a while, but has moved on. I personally am very confused! I really don't find anime that wonderful, much less artistic. Hopefully it is just a phase.

Mainly, I prefer animé to North-American animation because it shows more facial expression with the big eyes and such. Also, the characters have more depth than most of ours. Our characters have very few facial expressions to show so many emotions, yet animé characters can show a bunch of emotions with all the ones they have. Also, they always come up with the perfect theme songs for their cartoons (including the lyrics). And I don't like ALL animé myself (I prefer the ones for kids myself - more humour and adventure), but at the same time our own cartoons have had a few that matched up with the animé stuff.

I am 20 and I love anime! I always have. I just love the stories and the animation.
