He can't fly like a bird, but he can jump really high and stay in the air much longer than when a normal person jumps. It's a bit exaggerated sometimes, but you do see the same move in martial arts movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon where people can "fly" across the roofs of buildings.

InuYasha cannot fly but he does make graceful leaps that allow for a lot of "air time". In the manga and anime, the villains (Naraku, Kagura on her giant feather, and Hakudoshi on Entei) fly away to make their escape. Only Kirara, the two tailed cat, can fly and Shippo can float by transforming into a balloon.
