I'm looking for some more "dark" anime, any suggestions?!

Question: I just got through watching Gantz, and I liked it. I'm kinda in the mood to watch another one like that, where they aren't afraid to show a little blood and gore. I've already seen Hellsing, Elfen Lied, Blue Gender, Basilisk, and Claymore. Anyone know of any other series that are serious and a little gory? Thanks! :)

If you like shows like that, then Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is right up your alley.

The second season is about to come to a close. In a little over a week, actually. The second season is called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai.

In English it's called When They Cry - Higurashi.

It's about a boy who moves to a small village called Hinamizawa. Some stuff happens, and he finds out that every year on the night of the yearly Watanagashi festival, one person is killed, and another goes missing.
It's BEAUTIFULLY violent. In fact, the opening scene to the series is a nice little teaser of things to come, showing a boy with a baseball bat frantically beating two girls to death.

However, you might be a little confused come episode 5, when the characters who just died are suddenly alive again. It's like the movie Groundhog Day, where time keeps repeating itself. In the first season, a new arc begins every 4 episodes or so. The first 15 episodes are Question Arcs, in which it gives you possible scenarios. Episodes 16-26 are Answer Arcs, which give you possible solutions to each arc. Each different chapter has a name (episodes 1-4 is Onikakushi-hen, 5-9 or so is Watanagashi-hen, etc.), and each gives you more and more clues to solve the mystery of the brutal murders that occur. The second season reveals who or what is behind the killings.

You'll want to read the TIPS on bakasuki's forum. All you need to do is just search 'Higurashi Tips' and you'll be taken right to the thread. With each episode, there are tips to help you out. It seems like a lot of work, but it's very worth it.

Each character also has their respective weapon that you see used throughout the series.
Mion - Airsoft pistol
Shion - taser
Rena - billhook cleaver
Keiichi - baseball bat
Satoko - traps of all sorts
Rika - a board with nails (so I've heard), or a giant knife.

if u like psychological thrillers with a very dark theme i think u should try Boogiepop phantom. its very dark the whole series is gloomy and there is some blood. u mite like it if your into that type of "dark" anime but try watching a couple of eps u mite like it.

um u can also try "vampire hunter D" is a movie and there are 2 of them. plenty of blood and gore there.

Ninja scroll another movie plenty of blood and gore with a really good story. if you liked basilisk u will like this.

X the movie (u might want to watch the series first though the series isnt gorey or bloody but the movie is) its a very good series though.

yeah thats all i got for now

boogiepop phantom will give you all the gore you want

texnolized aint half bad either

I would recommend my all time fav anime movie Perfect Blue. The quote on the front of the box sums it up the best. "If Alfred Hitchcock and Walt Disney would team up they would make this movie." It is wonderfully drawn, isn't afraid of blood, and is a bit of a mind trip.

Like a psycological thriller? I strongly suggest Death Note and Evangelion.

Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (OVA, this is a must see. The prequel to Rurouni Kenshin. Lots of violence)
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
Black Lagoon
Baccano!
Darker than Black
Death Note
Ninja Scroll (movie)
Perfect Blue (movie)

Not too many other ones I can think of. These are all good though. Hope this helps
