Not all old comics are expensive. Many of the comics that came out from the 70's through today can be found in varying condition is $1 boxes at convention, or to be had for merely a few bucks at your better-stocked comic book shops. It is also possible that someone in your town or neighborhood may have a collection of comics that they may be selling or may let you read (I whiled away many hours of my youth that way).

Over the past decade, Many comic book companies have produced reprint editions of their older comics, and Marvel is no exception. They have their deluxe "Masterworks" editions, which reprint the earliest stories, and they have their affordably priced "Essentials" editions, which reprint almost the complete run s of many of their titles in black & white. You can find these at comic book shops, bookstores, libraries, and on Amazon.com.

Games movies and TV Shows aren't going to give you a real good look into the Marvel Universe. You really need to read the comics.

One solution to your problem would be to either purchase graphic novels which compile whole story lines from a particular series or check and see if they are carried by your local library and you can read them there for free.

EXCELSIOR!!

I know I'm repeating some of the other suggestions, but if money is a problem, you can try the local video store or library for movies or books.

For under $20, Marvel sells black-and-white Essentials books which reprint about 20 issues.

For under $40, if you don't mind reading off the TV or computer, you can buy DVDs of the comics. There is "40 Years of the X-Men" which reprints over 400 comics
