Yes, Bush is an idiot but that doesn't mean the American people are too. Most everyone I know hate Bush but when it came to voting, we were left only with two bowls of s h i t, Kerry and Bush...Homer and Peter would have been much better because of Marge and Lois. LOL!
I'd say that anytime we start electing cartoon characters to high office, things are getting much worse.
The good news is Homer J. Simpson and Peter Griffin aren't old enough to fill either office (Simpson is considerably older than Griffin, but not nearly the requisite 35 years of age).
The bad news in Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck are old enough to be eligible for Presidential and Vice-Presidential positions.
