Marvel or Max Punisher??!

Question: I just recently decided to start reading this series, and i was wondering which one is better?

by better, i mean which one is:

more realistic
darker
deeper storyline
better artwork

stuff like that

thank you!

Also, is War Journals and Max with the same storyline? i mean, either one i pick up, will it all start from the beginning? or is one before the other?

MAX is Marvel, both War Journal V2 and the MAX series are Marvel books.

From what you described you would definitely be more into the MAX books, they're in a real world setting, without all the Superheros and junk from the 616 War Journal and Marvel Knights books. They don't pull punches and are meant for adults. Ennis has done a great job with his runs on the Punisher. If you ask me, he and Dillon saved the Punisher. If it weren't for them we would still have the Angel Punisher books.

War Journal and the MAX books have two completely different story lines. What the MAX books do basically is take Frank out of the 616 universe and puts him into the real world.

War Journal V2 is very young, but I think it's a good book, too. It's great to see Frank back in the mainstream Marvel universe. Matt Fraction is doing the Punisher justice.

The Punisher is my favorite comic character, I have been reading Punisher books since I was 8.

I really enjoy the Max series and I think (by your criteria) you would enjoy the Mas series the most. The original Punisher was still more-or-less subject to the Comics Code but in Max Garth Ennis can just go crazy and there are some seriously twisted sequences in the comic.

My favorite Punisher run, though, was the Marvel Knights one. I actually like the art better (by Steve Dillon) and it has more humor than the Max series, even though Ennis wrote them both.

I am not reading the current War Journal, but I don't believe it has anything to to with what is happening in the Max storyline. Most of the time when there are several different incarnations of a character at the same time, they are in sort of parallel universes and the events from one series never affect any of the others.

Definitely Max if you want realism and dark storylines that's seperate from the Marvel Uni. The art is gritty and dark but sometimes you'd wish they have better artists doing the title. The artist that's currently doing the title (Goran Parlov) is really good and the writer is Garth Ennis...you'd have to be comatose if your not familiar w/ him.
Punisher War Journal is more tied into the regular Marvel Uni. as far as storylines but it's not as realistic or dark as Max, but the art is a little better , and again the two have no relation w/ the other. I'd get both titles if your having trouble deciding.
