Kakashi Gaiden arc.
The gaiden acts as an intermission between the end of the first Naruto arc and the brand-new story arc, which skips ahead two-and-a-half years into the future.
This is a manga-only arc, as the anime series skipped this and went directly to the first arc of Naruto: Shippūden.
Kakashi Gaiden is a 6 chapter miniseries of the Naruto manga. It's featured in the manga chapter 239-244. It tells the story of a 13 year old Kakashi and how he got the Sharingan eye.
He got it when he was 13 and promoted as a Jonin for Konoha. He got it from his Team mate and Nakama Uchiha Obito as a gift for getting promoted.
The full story is in the Kakashi Gaiden manga, but never adupted to the Anime yet. But it is speculated it might be animated and shown in Shippuden as a flash back when Kakashi fights Obito from Aktsuki (remember this is purely speculation and not confirmed as yet. especially in manga Kakashi just met Obito for the first time)
