It's probably because our own rock genre here is already fully equipped with talents and versatility. It takes us a while to really appreciate other countries song not because we're arrogant or anything just because we're supplied with enough from within.

As for popularity of j-rock. There's been development. Recewntly XJapan's (My fave band) new single I.V. featured in Saw IV soundtrack. So in some level j-rock has already been accepted. Will take some time before it's widely accepted.

^_^

it is in a completely different language, it's more high pitched than american rock (due to muscles developed through speaking the different languages), even when you translate the songs they only make sense half the time, also they combine mutiple sounds like techno, rock, and classical to create one genry that many amercians are too stupid to understand. I like it for all of thse reasons but many do not :D

Because people are ignorant. No one in particular, but let's face it, we're just to proud to accept another culture. It might also be fear. Why accept competition?

It's a growing trend, yes...

But at the same time, what percentage of the US actually know what J-Rock (and J-Pop) is anyway? In a way, you could consider it underground music.

Technically, even with the amount of anime conventions in the area that promote J-Rock, I think only few bands actually made it to be well known. Like Puffy AmiYumi, whose OP to "Teen Titans" brought some success. They even had their own float at the Macy's Parade 2 years ago.

Most people know bands because of the promotion through anime titles (Opening, Endings, Insert songs).

L'arc en Ciel had a big concert in Maryland, sold out, indefinitely. But how many people can you name that know who the band is?

And also, because it's a different language, it makes it further difficult. People will like the beat of the song, sure, but then you're looked at because it's a language that they cannot understand, which will make them ask, "why do you even bother listening to it?"

^_^; not sure what kind of answer you were looking for, but that's my 2 cents.
