Hmm... that's a good question.
I think you should finish the Death Note series first. My friend has watched all the Death Note episodes and he's seen the movie. He said they ended differently.
So finish off the series first, you don't have many episodes left to watch. Then watch the movie.
People who have watched the movie before they have seen the anime really regretted it. Lol, I'm not telling you the reason why cause I don't want to spoil anything.

You could. It's basically the same thing. The anime just goes into depth more.
I only watched the first movie, the one with real people. It doesn't matter which one you watch first, you'll understand the plot either way. It's just that the first movie ends sort of in the beginning of the series, so if you watch the series you'll just get a review and then move on to find out what happens next.
I watched the series first though, but whatever your choice is, it doesn't make any difference.
