as opposed to what color?

Animes are made by the Japanese. lt's only natural to color the anime characters according to their skin color.

In manga it's easier to have the characters have white skin than to ink in the black/grey tones and seeing as anime is adapted from the manga it only makes sense that they have the same skin colour.

There have been some black guys in anime, such as Bob from bleach i think it is... and Afro Samurai.
But generally Anime is made by the japanese and they are not used to people of other skin colours.

The characters are usually Japanese or Chinese, not white. Since anime is made by the Japanese (most of the time), they will create Japanese characters (most of the time). The way many anime characters are drawn and the characteristics they are given may make them appear white (like brown hair and green eyes, for example), but they aren't. And very often in anime you will come across characters who are Japanese or Chinese but have characteristics that aren't associated with Asian people, or humans period (for example, blonde hair and blue eyes, or even pink hair and purple eyes), but that's just the way the creators design their characters; the characters themselves are still Asian.

Sometimes though you will see anime characters of other races, like Yoruichi Shihouin from Bleach (she's black), or Drake Anderson from R.O.D the TV (he's white), or Yomiko Readman from Read or Die (she's biracial between Japanese and English).

i could name you many non-white characters, but have you ever seen a a japanese guy who's black? japanese ppl are mostly white.

i don't think she means the color of skin, i think she means the ethnicity, most of the anime characters i see don't look asian, they look anglo-saxon, caucasian, of european decent. that's what i think she means. not "why aren't there any black characters?" (by the way, not white doesn't automatically=black, why did you all assume she meant why aren't there black people? hispanic, native american, middle eastern, ASIAN??? any of these ring a bell? there's of course even more, but you obviously must not have heard of them so why bother listing them.) besides all this, asian isn't white, some of them have white skin, but they aren't "white" and a lot of japanese don't have white skin, a lot of them are pretty brown. so why don't you stop assuming that everyone on this entire planet is either white or black and realize that there is quite a bit of range between the two. and since when do 98% or 99% or whatever you said, of japanese people white skinned??? like i said quite a few of them are, but i don't know if i'd even say most. it might be most, but i know a ton who aren't so i kinda doubt it. so even if she did mean just the skin color, (not the fact that they seem to have a lot of blue eyes, blond hair, and very much not japanese facial features, most noticably the eyes) you still haven't answered her question because a lot of japanese people don't have white skin so your answers still don't make any sense.

because in japan, china, korea, etc theyre really particular about keeping their skin perfectly white. they do whatever they can to not get a tan. so, its natural that the anime characters would look like that 2.
