Avatar: The Last Airbender Question?!

Question: Ok so you know there are 4 elements right? Water, earth, fire and air. And there are benders according to each of these elements. But what about sand benders? What’s the deal with them, they don’t fit in a category...you know from the episodes where they were lost in the desert looking for Appa...anyone know? It’s been bothering me for a while now and I’m confused.

I agree. Sand is essentially just very very small rocks, so sandbenders would fall under the category of earthbenders. Each category of bending covers a lot of ground. The benders Aang and the thers meet in the swamp appear to be bending the plant life, but they're actually waterbenders bending the water in the plants. Some firebenders can manipulate lightning. Most earthbenders can't bend metal, but Toph can. There's a lot of variation in the different forms of bending.

Sand is Earth
