Death note questions? *one spoiler question!*?!

Question: 1) Why does Ryuk kill Light?
2) how many volumes in the manga?
3) What were people reactions to the ending, and what happens after?
Thanks. :3

I) In the end, Ryuk kills Light, or "Raito" in Japanese, because from the beginning Ryuk only purposely dropped the Death Note on Earth for a human to pick up and ease his bordem. In the first episode, if you listen carefully, Ryuk tells Light that in the end, when his time is up, he will be the one to write his name in the Death Note because that is the rule between the first human to use a Death Note in the real world and the shinigami that poses that human, in this case, Yagami Light.

In the final showdown between Near and Light, Light who is losing, becomes dependant on Ryuk. He kills him, because he said, and I quote; "You're finished if you're looking at me for help, Light. I guess it's been fun, you eased my bordem for quite sometime. I don't want to stay with you in jail, that would be boring seeing as yuo're finished anyway. Although, I was sort of hoping you'd see your way out of this. Oh well." Basically, Light was going to go to jail either way, and Ryuk didn't want to stay with him there. (Seeing as Light is still the owner of the Death Note, Ryuk would have to stay with him).

II) There are actually 12 volumes of the manga. But there are 13 if you include the new bonus manga that came out recently. It's basically about L, his real name, his life at the Wammy House. You should go check it out!

III) I wished Light would have lived. It would be more interesting, but it was also ironic that the great Kira died of a heart-attack. I liked it better when it was the original battle between L and Light, before Near and Mello showed up. If you're like that too, I advise you to go check out the Death Note movies, they have way different endings than the original manga and anime ending.

After the end, life returns to normal, crime rates rise, and basically the world is as it was before Kira appeared. Although, Matsuda, one of the detectives is second-guessing the choice of killing Light, unsure if they did the right thing. But in the final pages of the manga, which was not added in the anime, you see a grave that many people are surronding with candles. The leader, you find out, is Amane Misa, and that the grave belongs to Light. All the Kira supporters came to pray at his grave.

No problem. Hope I've helped!

1. Because Ryukyu only started this whole thing for his amusement, and now that it's obviously over for Raito, Ryukyu could care less if he lived or not. And again, in the beginning, he said he would be the one to kill Raito.
2. 13
3. Most were very disappointed, but a lot moved on because realistically, publishers can't publish that type of thing when "evil" wins in the end. But then again, in the manga, Mello/Near could never have been smarter than L, and could not have trapped Raito as they had. Raito would never have had a character change, and it was just very implausible. What happens after? Well that's up to your imagination, the end is the end.

1) because (it says in the manga) Light become reliant on Ryuk, and he was no longer interesting. he always said that he would write Lights name in his notebook

2) im not sure off-hand. i think it was 185 chapters, not sure of volumes

3) i loved the ending of both anime and manga. Afterwards (its in the manga) people go about their old ways mostly, crime rate goes back up, the detectives who killed Light are now just normal Detectives and Matsurugi think the world was a little better with Kira. There are still a lot of people in the world though that still think Kira is alive, and lots of people still worship him as their savior

1. Because he said it in the first place, that he'll write Light name on his book.
2. I don't read the manga.
3. On the anime? It's quite okay... I think the tory starts to decline afterL died... and goes up again a few episodes before it ends...

In my opinion, Near and Mello would never surpass L all by themself, they might to when they are combined.
Viva L!!!
