Thomas Magnum ("Magnum P.I.") comes to mind right off the bat. There was also a character on the show "Angel" who was actually named Gunn, and he was a kind of violent character in the beginning. There was also Peter Gunn, from a 1960s show of the same name. Remmington Steele was partly named for a gun company.
