Before Mickey Mouse, what was the name of the first mouse cartoon drawn by Walt !

Question: i thought it was steamboat willy

Answers: i thought it was steamboat willy

Mortimer Mouse.

Addition: I think the other poster is right now that I read her post. Mortimer Mouse was what Mickey was originally supposed to be called. I think Steamboat Willie is the correct answer.

It was steamboat willy, which later turned into mortimer mouse, then to mickey mouse.

Steamboat Willie was the name of the first sound cartoon starring Mickey Mouse. Mortimer Mouse was a character created several years later, but not by Walt. Mortimer was the name Walt had in mind for Mickey, but he later settled on Mickey.

I don't know of a mouse he created before Mickey. Prior to Mickey, he had created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Walt Disney didn't draw any mouse character before he drew Mickey.

There's two parts to the story:

One of his first cartoon creations was called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. He was drawing the cartoons which were distributed by another company (this was before he was on his own). The company that owned the character basically cut him out of the loop, so he stopped drawing Oswald.

After that happened, he was on a train ride with his wife and began doodling on a piece of paper - this character was a mouse. He was going to call the mouse Mortimer, but Walt's wife, Lily, said she didn't like the name, then suggested Mickey.
